A recently released study shows that teens who spend more time on social media are more likely to use alcohol and drugs. According to the study, all of those pictures and status updates of people partying serves as motivation for Facebook and Twitter users to go out and do the same.
The same thing can be said for anything posted on the Internet, Facebook or Twitter.
As 16-year-old Dana Cichon said to The Chicago Tribune, “The Internet puts it in your head.”
So what does this mean for you?
We all know that the grass is always greener on the other side. Those partying pictures might look fun, but in reality, they’re not.
It’s not the Internet, Facebook and Twitter than are making teenagers go out and drink, it’s the fact that they don’t know any better. With the proper education, teenagers will know that these pictures don’t necessarily equate to a good time.
With Internet and social media, it all comes down to education. Just how a teenager has to be educated about drinking and drug use, the use of the Internet and social media has to include education as well.
Businesses can use this as a lesson, too. Take the time to learn how to use social media and why it can be effective for your business. With the proper education, social media and the Internet are the quickest and easiest way to reach your consumers. Use it as a tool to get your message across – and you don’t want that message to be sloppy and confusing.
If you’re going to have social media as part of your marketing strategies – and there’s no reason not to – make sure that you not only know how to use it, but are using the right strategies to properly get your message across. The tools are available, so educate yourself today and get your social media strategy working for your business.

New York business owners can take control of their Internet marketing visibility by making a commitment to at least cover “the basics”. The basics, from our viewpoint , is reading the Google SEO Starter Guide and make sure their website is in full compliance.
From our consulting projects one of the most common problems we see is that the company name is part of many webpage titles. For example, take a look at www.airporthonda.com. The websites has dozens and dozens of web pages that start with “Airport Honda” in the page title tag. You can see this for yourself by going to Google and type in this command in the search box:
site:www.airporthonda.com
The reason why this is bad is because if you search for the phrase “Airport Honda” in Google their URL is an exact match and is already #1 in Google. So there is no reason to have that phrase in the titles of dozens of web pages. It is a waste of valuable Internet real estate.
In New York we can find many examples of websites that have the same problem as Airport Honda. To stay on theme let’s take a look at a New York Honda dealer. Potamkin Honda has a website at www.potamkinhonda.com and they also have their business name at the start of many page titles. On their new inventory page, this is the HTML title tag:
“Potamkin Honda is a New York Honda dealer and a new car and used car New York NY Honda dealership.”
A more focused Page Title would serve the dealership; one suggestion is:
“New York City Honda Dealer- New Honda Cars For Sale in Manhattan”
This is consistent with Google SEO Starter Guide that encourages page titles to be unique and descriptive of the page. If you have not read the SEO Starter Guide, you can download it as a PDF using this link: Google SEO Starter Guide
In fact, most of Potamkin Honda main navigation pages all start with their business name. In many cases the Potamkin websites has duplicate page titles. If they just edited each page title with the strong keywords they would do better in organic search. Examples of new page titles are:
The good news is that for many New York business owners, we can make small changes to the tags on their websites that can make a big difference for organic search. In this economy all business owners are looking for inexpensive solutions that can drive more Internet traffic to their websites. We have answers.

Perhaps it may be true that calling a rose by another name doesn’t change what the actual flower looks like or smells like, however, fast forward hundreds of years to the age of Internet Explorer, and you’ll soon realize why a rose by any other name is NOT nearly quite the same.
One of the most important factors in a well respected and highly visible website is your domain name. A domain name is the name of your website, example: www.searchengineoptimiztaion-ny.com is a domain name.
Let’s take Shakespeare’s infamous rose for example. If I had a website dedicated to information about roses and I named my website “Briansfavoriteflowers.com”, I will have to work much harder to let search engines know that my website is all about Roses!
On the other hand, if I were to pick a domain name like “AllAboutRoses.com”, it’s now quite clear to search engines that anyone searching for ‘Information About Roses” should visit my site. My domain name (www.allaboutroses.com) matches two of the search words being requested.
Pick a domain name that includes the keyword or keywords that you most want to target on search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Search engines commonly factor embedded domain name text into their ranking formulas, assigning greater weight to relevant websites based on keyword-specific URLs.
A good choice can boost your search engine rankings, increase traffic and make your business more memorable.
This strategy has worked well for our clients who have microsites. One of our microsites, www.bmwusedcars.net is a .NET domain and is #1 in the USA for “BMW used cars” search phrases in Google. This demonstrates how exact match domain names can be very effective in attracting qualified consumer leads.
