Internet Marketing In a Recession

Interestingly, it seems that this “financial crash” has forced the hand of business owners to review all operating and overhead costs. Today, they have to decide where they “MUST” advertise versus where they would “LIKE” to advertise.  No one had time to do this when they were making easy money; those days are over.

For most companies, my advice is to move “non-trackable” advertising budgets to Internet Marketing.  I’ll define “non-trackable” advertising the print, radio and TV media that have very little data collection or ROI proof.  Taking a full page ad in a glossy magazine with no call to action is ”nice” when cash is flowing. Today, that $3,000-$5,000 ad could be re-purposed on the Internet and generate trackable leads and sales.

Many of our clients that have kept their budgets for Google and Yahoo AdWords unchanged in the past month have actually seen a bump in lead flow.  I think its because so many companies have pulled their Internet advertising budgets.  I can’t image the thought process behind pulling ads from Google if these companies are still spending dollars on radio, TV or print media.
